All you et-a, think of all you et-a
Thing One’s report from Fire Mountain Scout Camp, July 9-14. He earned his Environmental Science merit badge and will complete his Fishing and Art merit badges at home.
On July 9 - 14, I went to Fire Mountain Scout Camp. They have a fishing dock, a rifle range, an archery range and a lot more. My troop was in the Chief Joseph camp site. The lake had rainbow trout in it. One of my friends made a fishing rod with a stick and put fishing line on it and caught some fish with it. I caught one fish. I was going to cook it at camp but there was a burn ban, so I brought it home to cook so I can get my Fishing merit badge. At the trading post I bought a magic Fire Mountain ball which is a ball with the Fire Mountain logo on it which answers yes or no questions.
We did other fun things besides merit badge classes. On one of the days of camp, there was an activity called the Scoutmaster Splash and Paddle where scouts went into the lake and splashed water into a can their scoutmaster was holding. When it was full, the scoutmaster would dump the water on his head and the scouts would put personal flotation devices on the scoutmaster and one scout would sit on the scoutmaster, (lying down) get a canoe paddle and paddle to the dock and back. It was fun getting scoutmasters wet and riding on them.
On another day, there was an activity called the Lake Challenge Challenge. Troops were timed to see who was the fastest. Each troop had 2 runners, 2 swimmers, 2 canoers, and 2 bikers. I was a swimmer. First, the runners ran around the lake. Next, the swimmers swam from the fishing dock to the swimmers area and they tagged the canoers (I don’t know where they went) and the swimmers were rowed back to the fishing dock. The canoers tagged the bikers, who biked around the lake. It was a bit tiring swimming that distance, and at first it was cold, but it got warm after a while.
The staff also sang some songs. One was a song where they ran around and picked up and flung food and they sang “all you et-a, think of all you et-a” and then they would run up to a table and sing “think of all the” and then they would pick up some food for instance, cereal saying “think of all the… Cereal you ate!” and then they would slap a spoon into a tray of cereal and fling it, which landed on one of our tables and then they would go back to what they sang last, for example apples and sing “Apples you ate!” while holding a half eaten apple and then dropping it back on the table.
On Friday night, there was a skit where when a scientist was trying to make soil for a wizard which would turn her into a frog if she didn’t. She collected dead stuff, rocks, plants leaves and water, but every time, her assistant got her stuff that rhymes with the ingredients, but they didn’t make soil and the scientist’s assistant was turned into a frog.
